Sushi dogs come in all shapes and sizes, including some unique variants! While they each have a differing appearance from one another, each variant also has differing magic potential, with normal sushi dogs being the least powerful and celestials and supremes being the most. Each variant plays a unique role within Culario and soosh society.
Normal Sushi Dogs & Sushi Cats
Normal soosh are by far the most common, and often considered to be the "default" form of all sushi dogs, as most variants actually do start out life as a normal soosh.
Mythical soosh are sushi dogs or cats who have diverged from usual canine/feline appearance, and instead appear more like creatures from human folklore. A mythical is created when a soosh receives a blessing from their patron deity (one of four powerful celestials that control the seasons), granting them a portion of the deity's power as well as their unique appearance. Four types of mythicals are known to exist: faesoosh, kitsoosh, vampsoosh, and dragonsoosh.
Mythicals are unique in that, while they're often admired by other soosh, many soosh may look down upon them instead. Generally, soosh who are closer to The Great Soosh in appearance are believed to be closer to The Great Soosh in spirit as well (with supreme soosh being the closest in both regards), and mythicals stray far from this ideal. More traditional soosh may find this insulting, and see them as power-hungry and vain.
On the highest tier of the soosh hierarchy sit the celestials and supremes, distinguished from all other sushi dogs and cats by their magic potential and higher divine purpose. These all-powerful soosh can be thought of as guardians, tasked with maintaining balance in the cosmos and within Culario.
(Celestials have roughly the same anatomy and trait restrictions as normal sushi dogs.)
Celestial soosh are the only soosh not associated with foods. Instead, they exist to "balance" the universe using their divine power. Their individual spheres of influence are often with the stars themselves, or in even more abstract and mysterious forces within the universe, but overall celestials have a more indirect influence on soosh society than supremes.
Although celestials aren't quite as powerful as their creator, they are often regarded as deities in their own right, both by humans and other sushi dogs (and especially by themselves). Their heightened responsibilities and (often, fiercely) independent personalities usually mean that celestials tend to stick to themselves, rarely associating with "lesser" beings.
Among the most prestigious of celestials are the four seasons. These four celestials are highly important to all sushi dogs due to their direct involvement in the growth of food, and are highly involved in soosh society, mostly notably as the patron deities of all mythical soosh. In exchange for their service (either to the four seasons themselves, or to others), they bless worthy sooshes with a portion of their great wellspring of magic. Lesser celestials also have the ability to bless other beings and objects, but usually not to this degree.
(Supreme soosh are significantly larger than all other sushi dogs, with large, powerful limbs.)
While celestial soosh are born, supreme soosh are made. These sushi dogs and cats were once just like any other soosh, who gained their empowered form from The Great Soosh's blessing. The circumstances that brought them this blessing could be anything, but the reason they accept it is always the same--a strong desire to serve and protect their fellow soosh.
Supremes are tasked with assisting The Great Soosh in keeping Culario safe and watching over the sooshes who reside there. Most supremes are expected to stay within Culario to guard its many secrets, while others (known as "envoys") guide small sooshes between the human world and Culario. The supremes selected to be envoys carry vast knowledge of the human world, while those stationed within Culario know all of its many secrets.
Unlike celestials, who are usually more independent, supremes are loyal and devoted to The Great Soosh's will. These soosh would never deviate from the path set out for them, and vow to serve others with all their strength--which they have quite a lot of! Supreme soosh are much more powerful than normal sushi dogs, both physically and in magic ability. Rumor has it they're even more powerful than celestials, but supremes are far too invested in their work to bother proving it.
