Sushi dogs are fictional, fairy-like fantasy species based off of cuisine from around the globe. You can learn more about them and their world on this website!
what makes them different from regular dogs?
Although soosh indeed resemble real dogs, please check out the anatomy pages for specific anatomical differences!
How can I get one? Can I make my own?
Sushi dogs are a closed species, meaning that the creation of official sushi dogs is regulated by the species owner. We really can't stop you from making an unofficial one, but you won't be able to participate with the community! Sushi dogs/cats are available through either auctions, flatsales, or as customs, but we also give them away for free on occasion. If you'd like to make your own official soosh, please see "How can I get a MYO?" for more information.
So what's stopping me from making my own food dog anyway?
Sushi dogs are closed species, which means that the combination of their specific appearance, world and community is exclusive and limited by the species owner. Only official sushi dogs are allowed into the community, whether they be made by the species owner, approved guest artists, or with valid "make-your-own" slots. However, the group, in no way, shape, or form, claims ownership over the idea of a canid creature mixed with the theme of foods/drinks. Rather, the group claims ownership only over the very specific world, lore, and style that sushi dogs are presented in.
Therefore, the group respectfully asks that people honor their work put into the species/community, and to try to obtain a sushi dog through legitimate means instead of making their own!
Can my species be affiliated with sushi dogs?
We are not currently accepting affiliation requests with other deviantart groups. Sorry!
Lore & Traits
Why do sushi dogs have closed eyes?
Sushi dogs have a large amount of magic power contained in their bodies, and the act of keeping their eyes closed helps them maintain their form to use their magic! Sushi dogs are able to open their eyes, but they aren't able to keep their cute furry form or use their magic while doing so. We certainly won't stop you from drawing your soosh with open eyes, but we won't accept it in the group!
Can my soosh have human or anthro forms?
We have (upcoming) official lore regarding humanoid forms, but we do recognize "alternate universe" human (or "gijinka") and anthro soosh (so it's not part of "soosh canon," but you're free to draw it and submit it to the group!). Sushi dogs don't have true anthro forms (like with human proportions and thumbs and everything), however, they can sorta walk on their hind legs for short periods of time if need be!
Can my soosh have alternate forms of other species?
Due to trademark limitations we do not recognize alternate species forms for sushi dogs. As far as the group is concerned, a soosh and any alternate species forms they have are considered completely separate characters.
What's the difference between standard, gourmet, and exclusive traits?
You can think of them like common, uncommon, and rare traits, if you're more familiar with that terminology! We just like using these words for extra flavor (heh).
Standard traits are common among sushi dogs, and you can pick and choose whichever ones you want if you have a MYO slot! Gourmet traits are more rare and a little harder to come by, and exclusive traits are even more rare than that.
I got a haute potion or enchanted bell! What are they, and how do I use them?
The haute potion and enchanted bell are items you can use to upgrade your sushi dog's traits! You can use a haute potion to add a gourmet trait to your soosh, and you can use an enchanted bell to turn a sushi dog into a sushi cat. Items can be used on existing soosh or for a MYO soosh--just note the group and let us know! And if you don't want your item, feel free to trade them or give them away to someone else.
Make-Your-Own & Custom Soosh
How can I get a MYO?
Once a month, the sooshapon machine is restocked with MYO slots for a limited amount of time! You can purchase one here for $35 or 3500 deviantart points. The machine might drop a bonus prize too!
MYO slots are sometimes also given out as contest prizes. Keep an eye out on the group for event information!
What if I don't want an unused MYO slot anymore?
You're free to trade or gift unused MYO slots, as long as you notify the mods on the database. If you purchased your slot, you're also free to resell it for the price you purchased it at.
Can I commission someone to design my MYO for me?
Yes! Just let us know who designed it when you submit it for approval so we can credit the artist properly.
What foods and traits can I use for my MYO?
Please see our MYO guide for general information on what is and isn't allowed for MYOs. You can find trait information at this link, but for more specific questions (like "Is *this* food ok?" or "does this count as standard or gourmet?") you can just message us in the group or discord!
MYO slots are good for all standard traits. If you'd like to add gourmet or exclusive traits, you'll need the appropriate item! As for foods, MYO soosh cannot use magical foods/drinks (like potions) or branded/trademarked names (for example, "Oreo" would not be allowed, but "sandwich cookie" would be fine). Other than that, go wild!
CAN I GET A CUSTOM SOOSH FROM CHITAL or a guest artist?
If you want to commission a custom soosh from Chital, look out for an announcement in the group. Unless they have permission to sell customs through the group, guest artists can only sell custom soosh designs to be used for existing MYO slots.
Can I sell my own soosh designs?
You can sell custom soosh to MYO slot holders only. You may not sell MYO soosh customs via auction. Please be clear that you are selling a design, and not an official sushi dog. If you are planning to sell premade custom soosh designs, we ask that you please not publicly advertise those for sale on deviantart, toyhouse, etc. as it can be confusing for others in the community. Premade custom designs should be offered privately to interested buyers only.
If you'd like to sell official sushi dogs as a guest artist, please see our guest artist FAQ below.
What is a guest artist?
A guest artist (or GA, for short) is an artist who's been approved to design their own soosh for the group. GAs take part in regular sales and events through the group.
Can I be a guest artist?
If you'd like to become a GA for sushi dogs, please click here to apply!
Can guest artists design their own personal soosh?
Guest artists are held to the same standards as everyone else when it comes to obtaining sushi dogs. If a GA wants to keep a soosh they've designed, they'll need a valid MYO slot to make it official.
Can guest artists host soosh sales or giveaways by themselves?
Guest soosh sales and giveaways can ONLY be hosted by Chital herself. This is to help protect buyers from being scammed by people claiming to be guest artists.
Can guest artists do custom makeovers in the sushi dog salon?
Our permanent salon staff is for mods only, but we allow GAs to work for limited times as traveling stylists!
